Anita R.Collins aka Sleetwealth is an artist sculptor of immense talent and vision. She talks to us about her her doll making and the otherworldly.

how did you start making dolls and why?

Mostly I began making dolls as friends. I was a lonely kid with overactive imagination. I gave it up when I got older but, I came back to it after a few years sculpting beads in polymer clay. My clay beads included mermaid and fairy figures. The beads became slowly less like beads and more like a sculpture. So I transitioned to sculpture.

 what’s your view of macabre?

I usually am drawn to things I think of as otherworldly, beautiful and interesting. Its other people who inform me that’s creepy or macabre. In general I don’t seek to do the grotesque or gory . It comes naturally for me and I’m comforted by those things.. decaying things, sickness, melancholy. The dark precautionary side of fairy tales as they used to be told .

if you could choose one doll to come to life, which one would it be and why?

One of mine? hmmm.. “Amulet ” I think is one of my very favorite. I’d keep her by my side like a sister. She’s a seer so, she’d lend me her gifts.
