Derek Fernandes is a young photographer and architecture student from Sao Paolo, Brazil. His favourite toy are his cameras and his inspiration is everywhere. So, naturally the work that he creates is most intimate, like a silent touch by someone you have always known or wanted to know.
How do your surroundings inspire you? What else inspires you?
I get inspiration from the common things in my day, like my cats, things left out of place in the house or the view of the city sunset. A few other stuff that inspires me: folk culture, the projection of natural light, Vivian Maier and places in the world I want to visit but haven’t been able to travel to yet.
How did you discover your love for photography?
I have liked photography since I was a kid, but only after I started the architecture college, about 5 years ago, I began to take it seriously.
As a grown up what would you say is your favourite toy or game now?
My favorite toys are my cameras. I love to spend my time researching and playing with them all.
